Who am I? - Veronica Waalk - 3D Environment Artist

Veronica, Roni, V (she/her)

I grew up not knowing that a career in games was a possibility. But I also grew up with a dad who loved playing World of Warcraft with his buddies, sharing that love with me and my brother from a young age. I quickly learned just how much online communities can bring people together from all over the world. Something clicked along the way and I discovered I wanted to pursue my passion for art -for people- to create enriching, safe, and awe-inspiring communities through games.

Creativity is inherently human. To live, to love, to suffer; art is born from the roots of experience, not stolen data.

This eventually led me to the PNW where I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Art and Animation at DigiPen Institute of Technology. I specialized in 3D environment art but that does not encompass my respect for game design and my special interest in UI and UX. My long-term goal is to become a respected leader in the industry; showcasing compassion, mutual respect, and encouraging personal growth to my peers. I will continue my own growth so that I possess the tools needed to be an adaptable leader.

Okay but like, outside of work?

⚔️ Recently I have been captivated by Marvel Rivals and have been playing competitively regularly with friends. We’re currently floating around Grandmaster I rank! My favorite genre of games is co-op survival; but a lot of multiplayer games have my heart - I frequently return to Apex Legends and after nearly 1200 hours, I just got my first heirloom shards!

🥋 I am still exploring hobbies and interests that spark joy. Recently I tried and have been training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I tend to favor No Gi but I love the variety of individuals it introduces me to and the community it provides.

🐈‍⬛ I love cats; but after being gutted by the sudden loss of my best friend Mazzy - I wasn’t sure I could bear to get another for a long time. That’s when I found a very pregnant mama cat on the streets of rural Nebraska. An all black cat like my Mazzy, I had to scoop her up with Halloween just around the corner. She gave birth to an all black litter and now with the support of friends and family we will be finding them all loving homes. You’ll have to ask me about the birth story!

🐦‍⬛ I find joy in hiking and exploring when I can, complimenting the local flora and fauna. Currently trying to befriend the local crow population by calling them all handsome.
